Extracted via steam distillation, rich in eugenol, clove oil is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry as a local anesthetic and as a natural toothache remedy, relieving pain and inflammation. General stimulant, also known as a mind stimulant.
In the 17th century, it was worth as much as gold in England. In the 19th century, eugenol was mixed with magnesium oxide to create a dental filling cement. Currently, magnesium oxide has been replaced by zinc oxide [1].
It is commonly used in homes to drive away pests and insects.
